The Musicality within Trailers - Avengers Infinity War

When looking at the music within Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War trailer, there are quite a few different elements to discuss. Whether it is the beginning, the climax or the end. In this trailer in particular, it shows the protagonists (the Avengers) to be in danger).
In the beginning, the trailer attempts to build both a sense of ambiguity and a sense of mystery for the audience. This is shown by the music being slow in tempo, high in pitch with long pauses where there is no soundtrack to be heard. This shows that there are things to wonder about what this new instalment will bring to the series of films that the audience are already familiar with, that there is something new about this part of the story.
Secondly, during the middle of the trailer, builds suspense for the audience, which connotes danger – the increase in building suspense is shown by the increase in tempo, accompanied by the introduction of different instruments, mostly low in tone. The musicality fits perfectly to the imagery that the audience are presented with, fast and dangerous. An increase in suspense provides the audience with a sense of worry for the pre-established characters. This, with the voice over of the antagonist, will create a sense of empathy for the audiences beloved characters. If they are not already familiar, it would create more of a sense of intrigue.
Finally, the very last loud, low sound, almost like a bang, at the end of the trailer shows that there may not be hope for the characters. If you apply this theory to the title in which this film is called ‘Infinity War’ it implies final, an end, an infinite war that may never end. Despite this, the bang at the end almost provides a conclusion.
Overall, the trailer for Avengers Infinity War, I believe creates both a sense of suspense and also fear for the characters, as they empathise with the characters struggles. The music helps with this, as when we see the images of the characters seemingly in danger, there is also a change in the way the music was previously. To compare this to the first Avengers trailer (‘Avengers Assemble), the musicality used in that trailer is very similar, likely used to create a sense of nostalgia to the familiar audience, and therefore creating even more of a sense of fear and empathy for the characters they are presented with.
